Shoot, Shakespeare knew his stuff. Although, in today's society the question has hardly anything to do with living life and all to do with how your living it. College? Working? -Get into a school -Get a job -Get a boyfriend -Get a smile. The list goes on and on. But what is exactly is the ideal 17 year old senior suppose to ask? I think the real question is how are we suppose to answer. Getting into college has turned into a bloody fight- every man for himself. I don't doubt for a second that if a UC college acceptance letter was sitting in the middle of a room, many many people would get hurt. In fact seriously injured. I know I would throw a couple elbows, maybe bite the few who got in my way. You see college "fits" into what we are suppose to do.
(what does that mean anyways? suppose: to presume (something) to be true without certain knowledge)
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for going to college, because I think a smarter society is much more productive. But there is nothing more unattractive to me than being 'average". Where is the fun in that? " Hey Tracy, how are you? You're looking really average this morning."-- Gag, no thank you. Then there is the far east side of the situation were i also don't want to be. The ugly side of a desperate teenager who claims they are going to be a somebody and everyone should remember who they are because they are going to go places, and we will see their face again blah blah BLAH. So I'm not going East or West, so what's left? Is up and down an option? I think i'll choose up. I want to be a successful, cultured person who can stand on her own two feet. I want to make some sort of difference in the world, while having realistic goals. I know that all the people who ended up going down attempted to go up, but failed somewhere along the way. Maybe college weeds out the ones who will eventually fall down and never get back up.
So Shakespeare I think there should be a rewrite.
"to go up or to go down, that it the question."
Amen, girl! You definitely have a lot of choices to make coming up in life... but the great thing, you can do whatever you want!! you are in the drivers seat!
