alive?

Well, yes I am alive. Unfortunately, I have been so swamped that I had to take a break from blogging. Applying to colleges had officially taken over my life, it was horrible. I would stress about it all the time: finishing essays, the applications, test prep tutoring, taking the stupid ACT and SAT Subject Tests, and then making sure your scores get sent. I cannot wait until I know where I am going! March cannot not come soon enough.

What I really want to discuss is the God awful standardized testing that is required of all aspiring college students. This includes SAT's the ACT's and the Subject Tests. I understand that they are needed because GPA's might be to weighted or some schools might be easier, but they are WAY to big of a factor. The real question is, how did this great idea start. If some fool was to go on a loud speaker and explain the test how would it go? "Attention to everyone who wants to go to college, in order to be considered, you must take an incredibly long, 3 and 1/2 hour test, it will be academically rigorous, and you have to pay us 70 dollars to take it...each time. The good news is you don't have to be smart to get a good grade on it, you just have to learn how to take a test. This can be taught by paying for a tutor or a class. Then if you want to send these scores to any schools (versus?) you have to pay an additional fee."
Ummm, am I the only person who sees a big flaw?
What happens to all the students who can't afford a class? Or doesn't have the time to take the courses? Standardized testing needs to be seriously revised. The whole thing is a money and time trap.

And on this cheerful note, I hope everyone has a great Christmas break.

Merry Christmas!
